Superior’s Address

Dear students, teachers, distinguished guests Ms Tania Mahailuk, Member for Bankstown, and Members of the Lebanese Media.

I wanted to begin with a quote by one of the greatest educators we have seen in the past century… Albert Einstein.

“There are only two ways to live your life.  One is as though nothing is a miracle.  The other is as though everything is a miracle.”

Ahead of you lie more challenges and greater independence, as you begin the next chapter in your lives. There will be opportunities to succeed or to fail. You have the necessary skills to begin the new journey. In a world troubled with conflict and poverty, you are privileged beyond measure. Your privilege is a miracle! And with this privilege comes great responsibility.

On behalf of the monks and staff at St Charbel’s College, I wish you not an easy or predictable road, but rather one that offers surprises, one that continues to provide challenges and opportunities. I hope that you experience both the glow of success and also some failure, so that you are always appreciative of the effort that is required for achievement. I hope that you continue to acknowledge the miracles you encounter each day, and to be fully appreciative of your responsibility to be a contributing force in the realisation of those miracles!

You are the reason the College is such a great school and you have proved that in your outstanding results.  I wish you well in your future endeavors and I hope that this will be the beginning of your new association with the St Charbel’s community.

As you enter into the big world, I remind you to remain faithful to God and his teachings of love and forgiveness. Saint Augustine sums up the power of love when he writes, “First you Love, than do whatever you wish.” He knew very well that to love is to abide in loyalty and honour to the Christian values and the people you love most. If there is one thing that Saint Charbel’s college would like you to remember when everything in this world fails you, it would be the faith in Jesus Christ and his Word that we have carefully tried to instil in your hearts over the years you have attending the College.

Finally, embrace the miracles you encounter and strive to live your life in the true Christian spirit and under the guidance of St Charbel.

God bless you and Good luck!
